11 Important Questions to ask your Makeup Artist before Hiring them for your Big Day

If you're getting married, you've most likely started looking for a makeup artist because it is utmost priority for every bride to look good on their big day, both in person and in photos. If you aren't sure where to start, Don't worry I am here to help you. Below are few questions to consider before making a decision.

👉 Ask your makeup artist if they are you available on (your wedding date)?

This is the most crucial detail. Ensure that your makeup artist is available on the day of your wedding. You'll also want to know how long your makeup artist will be with you on that particular day(some people will charge extra for waiting period), so be specific about the plan you have in mind(like for how many events you want them to work with you or do you want them to stay with you till the end of wedding etc). Also ask if they are open to date change or venue change especially if you haven't decided on either one yet.

👉How do you charge for your services ?

First and Foremost, you want to know how much this will cost you, right ? You have to make sure the makeup artist will fit into your wedding budget. Even if makeup artists post prices on their websites, its always a good idea to double check with them because their sites maybe out of date or they have changed their rates during pandemic. Also inquire if there is any security deposit required for booking the date, like an advance.

👉Are you open to travel outstation?

Whether you're planning destination wedding abroad or you want to hire someone from other state, its crucial to check with your makeup artist if they are comfortable traveling/flying with you. Also check What kind of arrangements they expect/ask for from your end? Will they travel on their own or Do you need to arrange food, accommodation facilities etc and Will your package be inclusive of the travel expenses?

👉Do you have pictures of your previous makeup work?

You wouldn't entrust your makeup to just anyone on your most important day, would you? Having a look at their client testimonials and images will let you get a sense of their  work style and whether or not you could imagine yourself working with them.

👉Who does the actual makeup? Do you do it, does your team do it?

Sometimes after doing hell lot of research, we will select a makeup artist and make advance payment too without inquiring if the same person will do our makeup. When the time comes,  their assistant will be sent to get the job done and we will be disheartened for not checking this detail beforehand. So check with your artist about who will do the makeup on your wedding day.

👉What brand products do you use?

Don't be hesitant to ask the makeup artist to open-up their tool case and show you the goods before you commit! You need to know what you are paying for before signing up, because the items your makeup artist uses are crucial to make your face glow on your big day. Also If you have skin allergies or severe acne, you can discuss with them if they can use only selective products for your special day.

👉What is included in these makeup packages?

Inquire your makeup artist if a hairstylist and saree draper will be bought in or if you will need to book one separately! Also check with them if they do makeup touches after ceremony

👉Do you do makeup trial sessions & can you match it to my outfit, so that i can see the final results?

Trial run for your wedding makeup is a must as it allows you and your makeup artist to get on the same page. This is the time to let your makeup artist know your choices and how light or heavy-handed they should be with foundation/ eye-shadow etc. Ask them if the trial run is included in the package charges or is it an add on?

👉Will you be doing makeup for my family too?

Ask them if the package includes doing makeup for your mom and siblings too or will they charge separately for doing their makeup.

👉Inquire about the cancellation policy

Given the current situation, anything might happen within the next week, such as the wedding being cancelled or postponed or the makeup artist being unable to come in. Make sure you have a cancellation policy in place so you don't get stranded or lose money. Also check with them if they can arrange backup for your wedding in-case they are unavailable at the last minute?

👉What are the safety protocols they will follow between bookings?

As we are in the middle of pandemic, It is crucial to check with your makeup artist about the sanitization criteria they follow. How they will sanitize their brushes and sponges? Will they be wearing masks and gloves? Will they be comfortable in taking covid test before attending the wedding etc.
